DMN shutters paid site

The site was launched in October 2013, after the publisher removed the paywall from its flagship site, which was originally erected in 2011.

The short-lived premium site was designed with enhanced visuals, limited advertising and other benefits, and was free to print subscribers or available for $11.96 per month.

“We’ve just learned a whole lot,” said Jason Dyer, chief marketing officer for The News. “We heard from subscribers. Our mobile audience has grown more than 80 percent, so we’re shifting resources there.”

Dyer went on to say that The News plans to unveil mobile app changes later this year.
