227 inserter with Bindery Automation upgrade
« on: June 23, 2021, 07:33:21 PM »
Hello, I have a problem with understanding the inserters at our sister company the Walla Walla Union Bulletin. They have  the 227 inserter (6 into 1) with the electronic upgrade from Bindery Automation. The miss lights are not working and bad papers are not being rejected.
I'm familiar with the original equipment setup with valves and solenoids and if switches are on and you run it, all the lights blink and the reject gate lifts up. It has an unopen system that seems to be working. It has a keypad, is there a special startup procedure?
It appears nobody there knows what to do, they just turn power on and start going and visually watch for misses. Occasionally it will reject a miss. Reflectors are clean and all photo eyes seem to show an LED indication except one. Does anybody know how
this system is supposed to operate and function? What little I could grasp from the manual it sounds interesting as it indicates a repair feature. I've run SLS1000A machines since 1995 and did operate the original 227 before that, and we have one now, but
the only change was the spring loaded miss detector is replaced with a photo eye.
thanks, Bill P.
