Honolulu Star-Advertiser retrofitting presses

Hawaii’s metro daily selected a suite of retrofits for its Regioman presses, including electronic hardware and software upgrades to the printing units, one folder and numerous related systems.

The upgrades, to be installed by manroland web systems Inc., will begin in Q1 of 2017 and will initially include the planning system and control desks. Retrofits to the unit controllers, folder and turner bar nests will be executed over time, according to manroland.

The Star-Advertiser sought out these retrofits in order to decrease obsolescence and will save us both time and money, according to Mary Black, vice president of production at The Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
